National Championships Announcement
Exciting times are in store with some changes coming to the teams racing circuit for the 2024 season! We are really excited to announce that NZTSA has partnered with the New Plymouth Yacht Club to host the 2024 NZSS Team Sailing National Championships. Hopefully everyone is really excited to get racing in a different venue, this will be the first nationals in New Plymouth since 2007 and the first time that the championships hasn’t been hosted in either Algies Bay or Lake Taupo since 2009.
This decision comes as a wider plan arching into the future, as part of a commitment to bolstering regional team sailing by having the championships move around some regional venues over time. More details around this can be found in the attached document below.
We can also announce that the 2024 Interdominion Championships, due for hosting in New Zealand after this year’s regatta in Sydney, are planned to be hosted at Royal Akarana Yacht Club in October of 2024. As it stands this is due to be followed by the NZSS National Championships to also be hosted by RAYC in 2025. Looking even further ahead, we are seeking expressions of interest for regional clubs who would be keen to see the championships move to their region and host the nationals at that time, in April 2026.
Information around the 2024 Nationals can all be found on the NPYC website at the link here: https://www.npyc.co.nz/events/nzss-teams-racing-nationals-2024/. There is already information for schools on there and some accommodation options and as soon as race documents are live, they will also be live on the NPYC page.
