Close racing on day 1
It was a busy day out on the water of day one of the 2016 NZ School Team Sailing Nationals. The day was filled with light winds and some frustrating conditions for the sailors and race committee.
Bronze fleet and it’s the new entrance, the all girls’ team from the Cook Islands making their presence felt strongly, with 7 wins from their 7 races, with Glendowie and Nelson Girls following close behind with 6 and 5 wins respectively.
Silver fleet’s St Kentigern and Mahurangi tied at 6 wins each. Close racing is keeping Dio and Napier Boys close behind tied on 4 wins each.
Wentworth is all over gold fleet winning 6 out of their 7 races sailed. Auckland Grammar finding some late form to finish with 5 wins leaving Queens Charlotte and Kerikeri Open on 4 wins each. The umpires were kept busy with many close and contentious calls.
With a half day tomorrow and a better forecast the OA and race committee can be prepared for tomorrow, to hopefully finish both round robins in all 3 fleets.
